A History of Crohn’s and My Story of Becoming a Painter
I was born with Crohn’s Disease and my first hospitalization occurred when I was 5. It was extremely traumatic. At one point, I was taken into a room and tied up by doctors and nurses in order to get an NG tube into me, and I disconnected from myself, as many with trauma do. That was just the beginning. I went on to have my colon removed at age 11, have six surgeries, numerous other hospitalizations and continue to live with this terrible disease. I also have had an ileostomy for over 30 years. In addition to the medical trauma, I had numerous other traumas including my house burning down when I was 8 and being bullied even by teachers and fighting back. Life was everything but peaceful.
In spite of all that, I was determined to make the most of my time here on earth and use my experiences as a catalyst to a more meaningful life. Read more and watch video here…
